Holly Hunter is a well-known American actress, producer and director. Her work has been recognized for movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles and The Incredibles. The movie Piano earned her numerous awards, among them an Oscar. She began her career as an actress on Broadway and Off Broadway. Acting has always been her passion. In the fifth grade she portrayed Helen Keller in an original play. Mumps caused her to be blind and deaf in one ear. However, she did not allow this to stop her from becoming an actor. In her early years, she was a drama student in the college level and then moved into New York City from Pittsburgh to pursue her ambitions. She met Beth Henley in an elevator and they worked together on Broadway Crimes of the Heart, Hunter's first film. Hunter moved from New York to Los Angeles and tried to land film roles. For Swing Shift, she landed an appearance as a supporting character. Holly Hunter has been in several movies, television shows and movies over the course of a 30 year career. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as well as the Women in Film Lucy Award.
